Noel Mueller, PhD

Associate Professor of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins University

Noel Mueller is a tenure-track Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Core Faculty member in the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research.

His research examines the nutritional, microbial, and environmental determinants of health across the lifespan, with the ultimate goal of identifying modifiable targets for chronic disease prevention and treatment.

Noel believes that primary prevention of disease risk factors, in early life and among high-risk populations, provides the greatest opportunity to curb contemporary chronic disease epidemics and reduce health disparities. Accordingly, many of his investigations, in both local and global contexts, are in young, racially and ethnically diverse populations. A large part of his research focuses on the role of the human microbiome in nutrition and disease. He is particularly intrigued by the microbiome because it is amenable to intervention.
